Matthew Meier is a freelance photographer living in
San Diego, California. He shoots underwater, travel,
and small products. Matthew was
formally trained at the Brooks Institute of Photography
in Santa Barbara, California, completing their
Master’s Program.
Matthew’s work has been published by The
Ocean Channel, National Marine Sanctuary Program ,
National Marine Sanctuary Foundation,
ThankYouOcean.org, NANPA Impressions, JCK,
Professional Jeweler, Timothy Meier Design, Ann Garrett Designer Jewelry, nkd Naked and
Off Broadway.
Prior to studying photography at Brooks Institute, Matthew received a BSE in
Materials Science Engineering from the University
of Michigan. It is there he became a certified scuba
diver. Upon graduation, he
moved to Vail, Colorado, where he worked for a
computer software company specializing in resort
reservation systems.
He traveled all over the US, Canada, Mexico
and the Caribbean installing software systems, all
the while, taking every opportunity to get underwater.
Matthew moved
from Vail to San Diego to be closer to the water
and get more involved in the diving industry. He has
worked at the Diving Locker, one of the oldest dive
shops in the country and also trained dolphins and
sea lions for the Navy’s Marine Mammal Program.
Matthew has been diving in Australia, Bali,
Barbados, Belize, California, Cancun, Cozumel, Costa
Rica, the Florida Keys, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Kenya,
Moorea, and Papua New Guinea.
Matthew is a member of the American Society of
Media Photographers (ASMP), the North American
Nature Photographers Association (NANPA), The
Ocean Communicators Alliance (Thankyouocean.org),
the Sierra Club and the University of Michigan’s
Alumni Association.
